RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY CAN RETURN HEALTH AND FUNCTION TO YOUR SMILE

Restorative dentistry can greatly improve a patient’s oral health, especially after teeth have become damaged or lost. Without a fully functional mouth, something as simple as eating may become burdensome or even painful. Those with lost teeth are also more prone to gum disease and other health problems. At Huntington Bay Dental, we provide our patients with a full range of restorative dentistry options for treating everything from minor damage to major tooth loss. Whatever your problem may be, the restorative dentistry treatments provided by the doctors of Huntington Bay Dental can return health and function to your smile.

An important benefit of having treatment at Huntington Bay Dental is the fact that Huntington Bay Dental has its own in-house dental laboratory –Huntington Bay Dental Laboratory – and employs a full-time certified dental technician. Where cases typically can take weeks to be made in an outside lab, Huntington Bay Dental can complete cases in one to two days. Quality is more closely controlled, as are costs, and time needed to complete cases is greatly reduced.

Our restorative dentistry treatment options include:

Full Mouth Restoration

Dental Crowns and Bridges

Dentures

Inlays and Onlays

Dental Implants

Mini Dental Implants

FULL MOUTH RESTORATION

Missing, cracked, chipped, decayed, discolored, and misaligned teeth can cause a number of problems and harm a person’s self-esteem. If most or all of a patient’s teeth need dental work, the most effective treatment plan is usually an individualized full mouth restoration. A full mouth restoration combines a number of restorative and cosmetic dental treatments in order to restore health, function, and beauty to the patient’s mouth, significantly improving quality of life and self-confidence.

Depending on the state of the patient’s oral health, suggested treatment options in a full mouth restoration may include dental implants, bridges, porcelain veneers, crowns, inlays or onlays, and the replacement of old metal fillings with natural-looking tooth-colored fillings. A comprehensive, personalized treatment plan is designed for each patient based on his or her needs and overall goals.

DENTAL CROWNS AND BRIDGES

Gaps caused by missing teeth can be eliminated by installing bridges in the mouth. Dental bridges combine crowns and implants to improve chewing function and create a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

During treatment, the teeth surrounding the gap are lightly buffed and prepared for impressions. After a mold of those teeth has been made, crowns are created to fit the teeth perfectly. A replacement tooth is then bonded to the crowns, creating a single “bridge” that is placed into the patient’s mouth. Dental bridges, once cemented to the teeth, provide durable, long-lasting support.

The tooth-colored materials used to make crowns give dental bridges a completely natural look. Thus, in addition to restoring function, dental bridges can improve the appearance of one’s smile.

DENTURES

Dentures are an effective solution to missing teeth, especially for patients who prefer to avoid the lengthy and sometimes more costly commitment required by permanent dental implants.

Consisting of full sets of replacement teeth, dentures are removable dental appliances that rest on top of or are affixed to the gums and help to restore function to the mouth. Prosthetic teeth allow individuals to chew and speak with greater ease and comfort. And because dentures can be removed at any time, they allow patients flexibility in cleaning and other activities.

Depending on the patient’s needs and budgetary concerns, dentures can be made with either plastic prosthetic teeth or more natural-looking porcelain teeth. In either case, dentures not only restore proper function to the mouth, but they also make a significant improvement in the patient’s smile, increasing self-confidence.

INLAYS AND ONLAYS

For teeth that have become damaged or decayed, inlays and onlays provide a more conservative alternative to tradition dental crowns. An inlay replaces tooth structure within the cusp tips of molars, while more extensive tooth damage can be treated and corrected with onlays which cover the entire chewing surface of the tooth.

While crowns require a large, outer portion of the damaged tooth be removed, inlays and onlays only require that the decayed parts of the tooth be drilled away. Once that task has been accomplished, a mold of the tooth is made so the inlay or onlay can be created to fit the existing tooth structure precisely. Porcelain or a composite resin is used to create the inlay or onlay in our lab. When ready, the inlay or onlay is bonded to the tooth, providing a new chewing surface and greater support for the tooth structure.

Inlays and onlays are more durable than most crowns and typically provide several decades of tooth support. They are also more aesthetically pleasing, especially as compared to metal crowns. Huntington Bay Dental uses the CEREC® process to fabricate single-visit ceramic and resin onlay restorations.

DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental implants provide an excellent long-term solution to missing teeth. With durable titanium posts that virtually become part of your jawbone, and natural-looking teeth attached to the implants, implants restore the mouth to full functioning capacity and dramatically improve its appearance.

Implants are also important to oral health. When teeth are missing, a person becomes more susceptible to receding gums and bone loss. By combating these problems, implants can help to preserve facial structure and strengthen the bite.

At Huntington Bay Dental, our doctors and staff have extensive training and experience in the preparation and placement of dental implants. There are many things which make Huntington Bay Dental stand apart when deciding on implant care:

  • Drs. Notarantonio and Antenucci have extensive training and certification in the placement and restoration of dental implants.
  • Huntington Bay Dental has both on-site surgical and laboratory facilities which allow us to manage the entire process from surgery to in-house fabrication of implant prostheses to implant restoration.
  • Managing the entire process allows us to control quality, time and expense.

What this means for our patients is that the implant process is in the hands of qualified and experienced doctors who can provide implant services at a lower cost, in less time, in the most convenient way for our patients.

In addition, Huntington Bay Dental offers MINI DENTAL IMPLANTS. Mini dental implants are ideal for the stabilization of lower dentures, especially in people with missing back teeth. Dentures for back teeth often cause difficulties for the wearer, but with tight-fitting implants, denture wearers can eat, speak, and laugh more freely and with greater confidence.

Placing mini dental implants is a minimally invasive procedure that requires no incisions and only mild anesthesia. The small titanium alloy implants are about the size of a toothpick. In about an hour's time, we can place these implants, affix dentures to them, and have the patient on his or her way. Post-procedure, patients experience only minor discomfort and virtually no downtime.
